I'd be interested to hear your thoughts (post them below in the comments section).
Maybe A-EON's low-cost Tabor (A1222) board will help, or maybe we need more software that takes advantage of newer hardware. We're working hard to push AmigaOS forward, and it would be great to have you all along for the ride.
That said, I hope we can convince them to upgrade to a new PCI-Express motherboard. Seeing people use older hardware is nice, especially those keeping their PowerPC accelerated classic Amigas running. The more people have these cards, the greater the motivation is for developers to take advantage of Warp3D Nova. I've put a lot of work into delivering modern shader based graphics via Warp3D Nova, and want to see it being used as much as possible. I'm happy to see a good number of people using the latest Southern Islands graphics cards (just under 40%). Last I checked, the Vampire board is a 68K accelerator, and AmigaOS 4.x requires a PowerPC CPU. Interesting, although I'm not sure how that would be used with AmigaOS 4.x. One person also listed having an Amiga Vampire card as extra graphics card. Maybe next year I'll add a WinUAE/UAE category to avoid this confusion. I don't know if these people are joking, confused, or are listing the card in the PC that they run the WinUAE emulator on.
Unless I missed a huge announcement, no nVidia driver exists for AmigaOS 4.x. What's a little confusing is a number of people claiming to use nVidia cards. So those are classic and emulation users. There were a number of people using Picasso IV cards, and several who listed UAEGFX/WinUAE as their card. This should be some signals on actually doing something.Additional graphics cards that AmigaOS users have. It would be much better if these two worked together about giving the classic Amiga a much needed upgraded operating system. However! Now it is both Hyperion Entertainment and Cloanto that have made their own AmigaOS 3.1 improvements. In 2017, the classic AmigaOS is still in development. Hyperion Entertainment and Cloanto continues AmigaOS development for Classic Amiga AmigaOS have been so unique and modular that it have survived the death several times in it’s history. So, AmiTCP, Miami and now Roadshow makes it possible to connect any Amiga computer to the net. AmigaOS also lacked a ethernet stack in its core package. This can also be said about Picasso96, Cybergraphix and AHI which transformed AmigaOS into a nextgen operating system. These new GUI systems extended AmigaOS a lot.Īlso! Do not forget Poseidon USB stack! AmigaOS didn’t have any USB support, but with third-party developers giving the operating system great USB stack, then a whole new world opened for Amigans.
The same thing can be said for ClassAct or ReAction. The web browsers for AmigaOS wouldn’t have tabs or nice gui layout without it.
First thing that comes to mind is MUI (Magic User Interface) that introduced modern looks to lot’s of apps for AmigaOS. AmigaOS have been improved by several developers which have given AmigaOS a lot more power. Thom also mentions: “Amiga OS is also a bit of a stretch, since its development pace is slow and has even died down completely on several occasions.” That statement is also correct! However, even though AmigaOS core development have stopped several times. Amiga is celebrating 32 years now in 2017! But that’s okay. He should have written 32, since AmigaOS 1.0 was out when Amiga 1000 got launched at the Lincoln Centre in New York in 1985. And that’s correct! photosource: – Amiga OS as seen here is the oldest AmigaOS is 31 Years old! AmigaOS is the oldest operating system!Įven though Thom Holwerda gives the right impression of AmigaOS. Thanks to Thom for actually putting AmigaOS as the oldest operating system of them all still alive.
Here, I see the most accurate info about AmigaOS on any website ever. Its an independent, portable and free project, aiming at being compatible with AmigaOS at the API level (like Wine, unlike UAE), while improving on it in. There is a totally new article showing how old operating systems are on, which is written by Thom Holwerda.
